BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) -- UPDATE: Birmingham Water Works state that the water is safe for consumers. The body was discovered in basin designated for water in the pre-treatment phase.

Birmingham Water Works confirm that police are on the scene after a body was found floating intake of the Cahaba Pump Station. This is in the area of 4000 block Sicard Hollow Road in Birmingham. According to Rick Jackson, a public informant officer of Birmingham Water Works, an employee found an unidentified black male floating in one of the water basins. Authorities were notified around 7:30 a.m. this morning.
Birmingham Police and Birmingham Fire and Rescue are working the scene.
